​As we have noted previously, only 2.7 km of the proposed (32+ km) Richmond Vale Rail Trail (RVRT) route actually falls within Lake Macquarie LGA; and in a relatively inaccessible north-western portion of the LGA (near Seahampton). This RVRT segment also borders Cessnock LGA on both sides.
 
However, on a ‘Features per Kilometre basis’, the Lake Macquarie RVRT segment is definitely very well endowed, including: two historic brick-lined railway tunnels (#1 and #2); a well-engineered historic reservoir (Burrenjim Dam); an attractive creek and small waterfall/gorge (Blue Gum Creek); a cave with Bushranger connections (“Jewboy Cave”); interesting railway cuttings, embankments and walks; and views to multiple high Twin Bridges on the Hunter Expressway; all of which reside within the beautiful, but yet-to-be-gazetted Stockrington State Conservation Area (SCA).
 
During the last couple of weeks, our good friend Bill Landenberger has added several sets of drone-based images to his collection of spherical panoramas along the former Richmond Vale Railway corridor. These include images taken at varying elevations above Tunnel #1, Burrenjim Dam, and Blue Gum Creek waterfall/gorge. On this occasion, we have extracted 12 images (Screenshots) from Bill’s recent panoramas, which are roughly sequenced from East to West within the Lake Macquarie RVRT segment. These images showcase some of the interesting and beautiful features within Stockrington SCA, both natural and man-made, as well as providing some general orientation information about the approved RVRT route.
