Big Jay Dog Videos / bigjaydogadventures " We would also like to take this opportunity to again remind Hunter Region residents and visitors that the Shortland to Tarro section of the proposed Richmond Vale Rail Trail (RVRT) will include direct connections to this M1 Extension, in addition to the RVRT’s other local and regional benefits (and contribution to the Shiraz to Shore cycle trail). The M1 Extension is currently scheduled to be completed by mid-2028 – so, there is still time to fund and construct this long-planned RVRT segment by the time the M1 Extension is operational (if not sooner)! Pic01 and Pic02 are screenshots from the Jason Filewood drone video, which have been selected to highlight the location at which the RVRT and M1 Extension will connect; these are, respectively, from the 7 Minute 40 Second and the 3 Minute 30 Second timepoints in the video. In Pic01 the New England Highway runs across the middle of the image, with the main northern train line above it, followed by the re-located Aurizon Access Road in the top third of the image. Pic02 is a South-facing image, which shows the initial section of the viaduct above the Aurizon Access Road. If you look carefully, towards the right-hand centre of this image, you can see Pipeline Road coming up from the South - which runs from Shortland to Tarro through Hunter Wetlands National Park (HWNP) and Hexham Wetlands. This part of the RVRT will run along the former pipeline corridor and under the new viaduct. Cycle paths from the RVRT will also go up both sides of the nearby M1 Extension embankments - allowing experienced riders from the Maitland and Raymond Terrace areas to use the RVRT as an active transport route to Newcastle. The images in Pic03 are from the updated Concept Plans and Landscape Plans for the M1 Extension, which further illustrate the proposed cyclist and RVRT connections around this part of the M1 Extension. Pic04 is an East-facing screenshot from the Jason Filewood video (at the 2 Minute 10 Second timepoint), featuring both of the Tarro Interchanges, which further highlights the fact that the RVRT needs to negotiate two major road networks. Pic05 presents a montage of ground-level images from today (26/10/2024) at the start of the viaduct (in the vicinity of the Aurizon Access Road), near where the RVRT will connect. Finally, Pic06 shows a small section of Pipeline Road, along which the RVRT will run – in this instance, near the former Hexham Junction, with HWNP on the left. The M1 Extension from Black Hill to Raymond Terrace is largely Federally funded (and is fully located within the Federal electorate of Paterson). As noted in one of our previous Facebook Posts (https://www.facebook.com/richmondrailtrail/posts/pfbid02zyBLYVyCAw9RDh9QpArv5HfErc7aobQ7X3SDpEp2DdXrudzxFPnTtpCxeAuExi5sl ), the RVRT would also benefit substantially from construction of a new Shared Pathway Bridge across the New England Highway, similar to the one at Jesmond. This would facilitate access to Anderson Drive and optimise the trail’s Tarro-Beresfield connections - ensuring that the RVRT is accessible by all potential user groups, not just experienced riders.
